Professor Emmanouil Pikoulis

MD, PhD, DMCC, FACS, FEBS

Professor Emmanouil Pikoulis is Professor of Surgery at the School of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and Director of the 3rd Department of Surgery at “Attikon” University General Hospital. He served as Dean of the School of Health Sciences of NKUA (2021–2024).

He is the Chair Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair “Humanitarian Medicine and Response in Action” (2020–2024), focusing on humanitarian medicine, global health, and response to crises and disasters.

His academic and professional work combines emergency surgery and trauma management with humanitarian action, disaster medicine, and healthcare professionals’ training. He has extensive international experience in humanitarian missions, preparedness and capacity-building programmes, as well as collaborations with international organisations, including the World Health Organization (WHO).

He is Director of the MSc Programme “Global Health – Disaster Medicine” at the School of Medicine of NKUA and has made significant contributions to the development of educational initiatives addressing humanitarian crises, mass casualty management, and the strengthening of health system resilience.
